AMIN ASIKAINEN LOST IN A QUESRIONABLE FASHION
“Idi” Amin Asikainen lost his European middleweight title to Sebastian Sylvester June 23 in Germany in a very questionable fashion. Sylvester won the fight by TKO in round 11. Referee Giuseppe Quartarone did many questionable decisions during the fight. In round 8 threw a hard right hook, which landed to the upper neck of Asikainen. The referee did not give Asikainen enough time to recover from the blow, nor did he penalise Sylvester.
Asikainen started the fight very well. At the end of round one Asikainen dropped Sylvester down with a counter left hook. at the same time with the bell. Quartarone lifted Sylvester up and helped him back to his corner. He did not count to Sylvester, so Asikainen missed a 10-8 round. In round 6 Asikainen shaked Sylvester again with a left hook. Sylvester smartly tied up and survived the round.
In round 7 Sylvester dropped Asikainen with a left hook. Asikainen clearly won the round 8, but at the end of the round Sylvester landed a hard hook to Asikainen´s neck. After punch Asikainen was never the same. In round 11 Sylvester pushed Asikainen´s head down with his left hand and punched with his right hand. Asikainen went down and he was badly shaken. The referee Quartarone point out to Sylvester that Sylvester that he can not do that, but he did not give Asikainen any time to recover from the foul. Few seconds later Sylvester landed a big right hand and Asikainen went down again. The referee stopped the fight and Asikainen had lost his EBU middleweight title.

FINNISH BOXERS SCORE WINS IN HELSINKI
P3 Boxing promoted a six-fight card in Helsinki in Friday.
European middleweight champion “Idi” Amin Asikainen gave no chance to Latvian journeyman Martins Kukuls in eight-round non-title bout. Asikainen was accurate from the beginning and clearly dominated the action. Kukuls was determined to against the EBU champion, but finally in round six Asikainen knocked Kukuls down with a left hook to the body. Referee Erkki Meronen stopped the one-sided fight after the knockdown.
- I might have stopped the fight earlier if I would had slugged with Kukuls. But I decided to be careful and avoid getting hit. It was really just a glorified sparring session, told Asikainen, who is scheduled to defend his EBU title against mandatory challenger Sebastian Sylvester in June. Asikainen has now a 21-0, 15 KO record.
Juho Tolppola punished Artur Jashkul in a six-round welterweight bout. Tolppola was way too good for the Latvian, but he could not stop his opponent. In the fifth round Tolppola dropped Jashkul with a body shot, but amazingly Jashkul got up and went the full distance.
Heavyweight Sami Elovaara was in great shape. He weighted in at just 101,1 kilos, that is six kilos less than he weighted in January. Elovaara attacked his poor opponent Krisztian Juhasz with a brutal body attack early on. Elovaara knocked out Juhasz with a left hook to the body at the time 1.11 of the first round.
Russian Dennis Shafikov, who made his first appearance in Finland, showed that he is a real talent. The left handed Shafikov has got great skills and he is very fast. Shafikov totally dominated Cristian Frias from Holland. The judges scored the bout 80-72, 80-72 and 80-73 for the Russian.
Light middleweight Samuli Leppiaho won a unanimous decision over Justin Barnes. The fight was very close and it could had went either way. Cruiserweight Umar Kemiläinen totally outclassed Latvian Leonid Dmitrichenko. Referee Anssi Peräjoki had to stop the fight in the very first round.

EUROPEAN CHAMPION AMIN ASIKAINEN FIGHTS IN HELSINKI MAY 18
European middleweight champion and The Ring Magazines #6 ranked middleweight in the world Amin Asikainen (20-0, 14 KO) fights in Helsinki May 18. It will a be a tune-up type of fight. The opponent will be announced later this week.
The mandatory challenger Sebastian Sylvester has been injured and Asikainen will not travel to Germany May 26 to defend his European middleweight title. The rematch between Asikainen and Sylvester will be rescheduled. The fight might happend 23 June.

KAI KAURAMÄKI WAS DEFEADED IN BELGIUM
Belgium champion Jamel Bahki beat Finnish journeyman Kai Kauramäki in Liége, Belgium. Bahki won the six-round middleweight bout by unanimous decision. The 39-year-old Finnish veteran fell to 13-12 with 4 KOs.

“BOXING NIGHT I” IN HELSINKI 18 MAY
P3 Boxing promotes a six-fight pro-boxing event in Helsinki Friday 18 May. The event is called “Boxing Night I”. P3 Boxing plans to promote "Boxing Nights" regularly in the future. The meaning of the events is to increase the publicity of the talented Finnish pro-boxers and make sure that they get enough fights. MTV3 Max will broadcast the events.
Super lightweight Juho Tolppola (in the picture) returns to the ring after his heart muscle inflammation. In January Tolppola lost on points to Michele Di Rocco in European Union (EBU-EU) championship fight. Also on the card comebacking heavyweight Sami Elovaara fights his second fight in two years.

PIISPANEN, RUOTSALAINEN VICTORIOUS IN LAHTI
Three pro-fights and three amateur boxing bouts was held in Lahti April 21. In the main event local hero Ville Piispanen stopped game, but outgunned Jurijs Ivanovs in four rounds. Unbeaten welterweight Jarno Ruotsalainen won hard-fought six round unanimous decision over hard-hitting David Tselingarjan. The decision was fair although tricky Ruotsalainen had some trouble with the aggressive Latvian boxer in the middle rounds.
Lightweight prospect Ville Piispanen (8-0-1, 3 KO) was impressive in his hometown.

RESULTS OF GEEBEE-TUORNAMENT
Helsinki April 13. - 15. 
Finnish super heavyweight Robert Helenius (in the picture) clearly beat Irish Cathal McMonagle in the finals of international GeeBee-tournament. McMonagle received two standing eight counts, but went the distance against the silver medalist of European Championships 2006 In the semi-finals Helenius had to dig deep to emerge with a deserved 32-21 victory over MMA-star Sergei Kharitonov.
Jussi Koivula got two good wins in the tournament. He beat German Enrico Wagner 32-22 and Italian Carmine Cirillo 21-20. In the finals European champion Boris Georgiev outclassed Koivula. The superbly talented Bulgarian won the bout on points 34-7. 19-years old Niko Jokinen won two fights, but in the finals Irish Darren Sutherland was too strong for him.
